blue ribbon PTSA Scholastic and Service Awards Banquet Award Criteria

This year the PTSA will host its 32nd annual awards banquet to honor and recognize students who have excelled academically and/or have shown outstanding service to Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts.

Scholastic awards are earned by students who meet the following criteria:  a 3.6 or higher cumulative unweighted GPA or are in the top 5% of their grade.  Freshmen receive a certificate, sophomores receive a letter and juniors receive a pin.  A student who attains this distinction as a senior receives the scholastic medallion.

Students earn Service Awards by accumulating points through participation in activities such as Marching Band, Vocal Music Program, sports, theater, dance, art, SGA, class steering committee, Student Board of Elections, FBLA, FEA, PTSA and other student activities at Patapsco.  As students earn points for service, the first year students receive a certificate, the second year students receive a letter and third year students receive a pin.  A student who attains service points for the fourth consecutive year receives a medallion.

In March, a Connect-Ed message will be sent to students as well as announcements made during homeroom, asking students to obtain their point cards in order to have them filled in with the events, organizations or activities in which they have been involved this year.  The teacher or the sponsor must sign the card and enter the number of points received.

Students will not be invited to the banquet if they receive any E grades, suspensions or expulsions, for any reason, during the school year.

If a student is invited, an invitation should arrive at home by the end of April or early May 2010.  We will also send a Connect-Ed message to the home alerting you to expect the invitation.  Students can also check a list posted outside the library to see if they have been invited.  The list will not be posted until early May.  The banquet will be held the evening of Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at Martin’s East.  The cost of tickets for guests of the invited student will be approximately $35.  The invited student’s meal is covered by the PTSA fundraiser.
