Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts is a diverse suburban high school that prepares students to become life-long learners and productive global citizens. Our mission as a department is to provide a safe, supportive environment that promotes tolerance and respect for diversity. We challenge stuents to become active learners and critical thinkers, and foster the development of scholarship, leadership, citizenship, and integrity.

The English Department at Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts offers a wide variety of courses for students. English classes are offered on the Standard, Honors, and Gifted & Talented levels. In grades 11 and 12, students have the opportunity to take courses that lead to the Advanced Placement test in Literature and Composition and/or such electives as Journalism, Introduction to Publications, Creative Writing, and Speech. Students learn the universality of literary themes and the relationship among various cultures in society through an in-depth analysis of different genres of literature.
