Executive Board Report
PTSA now has a total of 144 members. On 3/13/08 the General Membership Council will hold its meeting.

Standing Committees Report

Vocal / Music/ Band
– The Music Boosters will hold its annual Bull Roast on Sunday, Feb 17th from 2pm to 6 pm at Rosedale Gardens. Tickets are $35 and can be bought at the door. The musical Beauty and the Beast will show on March 6, 7, 8, and 9. All shows are at 7:30 except for the show on Sun the 9th. That will be at 2 pm. Mr. Lewis would like to inform everyone that the Barbershop groups were asked to compete in a completion on 3/8/08 that could lead to international recognition. Another feather in their cap happened last Thursday when the Wood Ensemble and Vocal groups performed a very difficult piece. The Composer of this piece was in the audience and praised Patapsco for their performance. The music department held auditions for next year’s incoming class. They had a record amount of young people audition.

Dance
The Dance Boosters will hold their Shrimp and Bull Roast on May 2 at Martins Eastwind. The cost is $40. At this time they are selling Corbi’s Pizza. Money is due in Feb. 14. The dance boosters will also give 2-$500 scholarship to seniors this year. The dance committee will require the seniors to write and present a 2 minute speech in what dance has meant to them. The Winter Concert held on Jan. 25 was a wonderful performance showcasing all of the Senior’s choreography. The next day Ms. Sweet had dance magnet auditions. Many talented dancers are hoping to get into the dance magnet. Also on Fri. of this same week there was a dance performance showcasing all the county schools. Patapsco performed only 2 pieces. We were the host school and should have performed many more. We had other pieces that were ready to showcase because they were danced one week earlier. While other school performed up to 6 pieces. There were also some issues with some of Carver’s dancers being EXTREMELY RUDE to our younger dancers. Many of our dancers expressed concerned over the way that their rudeness was handled by the teachers.

Athletics
- No one was present to represent the Athletic Boosters. Dr. Bowes informed us that their Bull Roast will be Feb. 29th

Theater
– Mr. Lewis is still trying to encourage members of theater to join boosters. Auditions for upcoming show –Chicago will be in March – We are trying to get all magnets involved in this performance.

Art
- Dr. Bowes informed us that Art Department will hold a Silent Auction on Feb. 26 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tickets are $20

Special Committees Report

Special Education
– Dr. Bowes will try and find the Special Education Manuel for our PTSA Liaison.

PSTA Scholastic/Service Banquet
– Ms. Grimes handed out an extensive task list that needs to be completed in order for the Banquet to be a success. Terri has agreed help with the program since she had the list of students and the program is on the schools computer somewhere. Everyone on the PTSA board needs to help Jackie and Terri with this massive list. The banquet is May 21st at Martin’s Eastwind. Students must have a 3.6 GPA or higher (not weighted). The list will be posted on the wall. Parents were also concerned about the card that students need to get completed by teachers. Some parents are not even aware that their child received a card and some students don’t bother to get the card completed. Will we give a PATRIOT PRIDE award and who will get it??

Additional Reports

After Prom Party
– Jackie and Mark attended a PSTA meeting about Insurance for school events. They were informed that any event held by and for the school must have a 1 to 6 parent/student ratio. Another issue was the car give away. What are the repercussions?

PTSA Scholarships
– There will be two $300 recipients. The scholarship committee will nominate students. The PTSA will verify that the students and their families are members of PTSA. We will write the check and send it to school
