Organization for Instruction
Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts serves students in grades 9 th through 12 th . Our classes are organized as a 4 period semesterized schedule. The school day begins at 7:45 and ends at 2:15 pm. Each period of the day lasts between 85 to 90 minutes. Students take four courses each semester. At the end of January, all courses switch and students take four new classes. Many of the music courses and the most rigorous Advanced Placement courses run on the A/B schedule in order to allow for maximum performance on end of the year assessments.
Patapsco offers a broad range of courses including:
- 15 Advanced Placement courses
- Magnet courses in Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Dance, Technical Theater, Vocal Music, and Instrumental Music.
- Students can attend Southeastern Technical High School for specialized programs
- JROTC
- World Languages

Patapsco High School offers a full range of services to students identified through the IEP Team process. Services may include classroom instruction, speech therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, social work, vision, services for the deaf and hard of hearing and psychological services. Students with IEP’s receive services in the general education classroom and in self-contained classrooms. Patapsco houses two cluster programs: FALS (Functional Academic Learning Support) and BLS (Behavior and Learning Support) to students who have been placed by the Office of Special Education.
Mission Statement
The primary mission of Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts is to provide students with quality comprehensive educational experiences enabling students to develop the productive habits of a life-long learner. Students will be able to think critically and creatively, learn independently and in collaboration with others, value ethical behavior, and develop skills needed to function in a technologically changing and diverse world. In addition, Patapsco offers a magnet program in the visual and performing arts to provide selected students an opportunity to acquire knowledge and develop skills within their chosen field of endeavor that will lead to post-high school study, employment or both.
Patapsco has an enrollment of 1400 students and is in the southeastern area of Baltimore County. It is surrounded by a hard-working middle class neighborhood consisting of waterfront homes, Townhomes, and apartments.
