Literary Arts

About Patapsco's Literary Arts Magnet

The art of writing is taught as a process of exploration of what it means to interact with the world in such a dynamic way – students learn to engage with their own work and with the work of others to critique and refine their own writing and the writing of their peers.  Students may explore writing, both as a profession and as a meaningful way of self-expression, through engaging and challenging courses that provide a solid foundation in the art of written expression.  Literary Arts students will write in a variety of forms in order to develop and refine their unique voices as playwrights, novelists, poets, journalists, or essayists with a passion for serving society through this vibrant means of communication.

Because the Patapsco Literary Arts program is brand new, students will be afforded the opportunity to refine and mold their experience in a way that may not be offered in other programs.  Students will experience a community of like-minded, enthusiastic writers and instructors who are eager to help them achieve their full potential.  Activities, assignments, and projects will be tailored to meet students’ individual needs so they are able to grow and mature as writers, and as people, over the course of their four years at Patapsco.
